My 2000 S80 engine suddenly shuts down.
It is a 2,9 engine. It happens the 3rd times in the last 2 weeks. After driving the car for 45 minutes or more the engine stops and a message comes up on the left side of the dash "El.Power System Service Required"
After 15-30 minutes sitting on the side of the road it will start again and goes for another 20-30 min. and do it again. When it starts there is "0" message, no engine light on what so ever.
Any idea what could it be?
Thanks,

From what I have heard it could be one of a couple of things. The alternator, a charging fuse, need of a software update or the serpintine belt. Its more likely the alternator.
You need to find out if the alternator is charging at the proper rate.

I got it scaned again yesterday and i was told, there were no fault codes what so ever. It is kinde of frustrating not knowing when it will stop again. I will check these thinks again what you mentioned.

That is strange. Sure sounds like a charging issue. What did they scan with? Was it a Volvo dealer? I don't think a code would come up. Did they look at the charge rate on the scanner?
Next time it does it see if the lights go one or anything for that matter. It could also be a loose connecting or corrosion.
Jim
Yes it is strange. The place were i got it scaned is a Volvo specialist. They work with the same scaner as the dealer. When it stops only the message comes up on the left and when it starts up, shows nothing (runing perfect) checked the charging sys. today, nothing wrong. ????
