Default need help with a 2001 s80 t6

I recently bought a 2001 s80 t6. I drove it for 2 months or so. Then one day while driving it just died. It started right back up but when I would put it in gear it would go for 30 40 feet then die again. I finally just started and let it run in neutral for a couple minutes and was able to get it home without towing. But when I reached the house I noticed smoke pouring out from under hood. So when I popped hood. I NOTICED that one of the plugs in the top of the cover had blown out. My question is what could possibly cause that to blow out. Ive replaced the pcv. Could it be a check valve in the evap system?
