oil level low
I have 2010 volvo s80. only 20,000 miles. last week panel show oil level low light on. I went to dealer, they check oil level and found it was in low side ( below half full). they checked engine and didn't find anything leaking, just add some oil ( synthetic oil) and told me it is OK. last oil change in 3 month ago at 15,000 miles service. I think something is not right. did anyone has the same problem? I have never use volov before. I wonder if it the common problem for volvo.
It's not uncommon for a car to use/loose oil, especially during the break in period. It is also possible that the person that changed the oil last did not add enough.
One thing you should know, you can NOT trust others to properly take care of your car. You need to take care of your own car. Learn how to check the oil, tires, and other things that need to be checked on the car and ALWAYS check behing mechanics. I have heard of people having tires ROLL OFF THE CAR after a mechanic rotated the tires and forgot to tighten the lug nuts.
You should check your oil every 500 miles if it is coming up low on oil. Every 1,000 miles if you think every thing is fine (at least once per month). Check the coolant, tire pressure, windshield washer fluid and anything else you can check.
I helped a lady change a tire on the freeway the other day. She claims that she just purchased new tires within the past year. The tires on the car were DRY ROTTED, which means they were at least 6 years old. They were Perelli's so I doubt they dry rotted within 4 years. She didn't know how to look at her tires to tell if they were good and not dry rotten. All except one were rotten. She also claims that she just had someone look at her tires and check her car over before she hit the road. She was from 3 states away with bad tires. Did they check the oil??? Did they check her hoses??? Now she's 700 miles from home shopping for new tires.

The big thing about dealing with mechanics, with people in general, you must remember that they have EGO's. So, if you are watching them, questioning them, trying to learn from them, picking their brain, you have to go at it in a way to message their ego subtly. Act like an 8 year old that is somewhat fascinated with what they are able to do, like you really care and they will cave in and let you admire them at work. Then like FASTER said, take that info and continue to live your life.
