Default low oil level

I've got a 1995 2.4liters 850 station. Went 130,000 miles without adding one drop of oil between oil changes. Regularly changed oil every 5,000 miles or less. Suddenly, last winter, I had to add oil. About one quart every 2,000 miles. Does not seem to be leaking. No oil on the ground and no oil in the coolant neither. Performance and fuel consumption didn't noticeably changed.

Dealership say they need to open the head to further investigate (read $$$$$!)

Any idea what that could be or how to find out without tearing down the cylinder head?

Thx

Default RE: low oil level

Normaly just due to high milage. When you get into the high milage 1 quart low in the normal oil change interval sounds about normal so i wouldn't worry to much.
