Default Oil loss mess up timing?

I have a 99 S80 t6. I'm getting a code p014 which is related to a timing issue. The car is running very rough and idling very rough as well. It's almost running as if there is a missing spark plug. I'm also getting a low oil light. The mechanic I took the car to said that the oil flow controls the timing on this particular car and I was just wondering if that's true because he wants to take the oil pan off and check it for sludge. He also said these years were known for having sludge building up a lot? Any help would be great.

the timing belt i think control the timing, not the oil flow, the oil pump controls the oil flow,

how is that even related, doesnt the cam shaft spin according to the timing belt and that in turn rotates the pistons in the cylinders and the electrical system fires the coils which in turn fire the plugs and the injectors fire and thats the magic ?

lol anyways read up on what the code means and i think you are missing a number in the code, its usually "p" and 4 numbers

as far as sludge, well, if the original owner used dyno oil, then sure, the oil trap (pcv trap) will get clogged, if they used synthetic and thats less likely to happen ( funny how the manual recommends synthetic abut the dealer uses dyno) i would think that using synthetic would give them the opportunity to mark up the oil more and make more money on rich people who bought a $50.000 dollar car
