Hi to all Volvo fans!

Just bought a 10 years old Volvo S80. I am planning to change the motor, gear box oil.

The Volvo manual says that the SAE 0w30 is the oil to use. The guy at the service is positive, that the 5w30 should be use - because the car is already pretty old - 10 years, so to prevent leakages and so on the 0w30 shouldn't be used.

Any opinions from the volvo fans and experts would be more than welcome!

 

I'd refer to your owners manual for oil weights - not sure about your model but its common for the manual to recommend weights by local climate, ie to use a 0-30 in a colder climate and 5-30 in a warmer climate. Rather than going to a thicker oil to prevent leaks, I'd suggest using a "high mileage" oil which contains seal softeners.
