I am not 100% on removing the door panel, but you can try otherwise.

Ignition off.
Remove the key.

Note! The key must be removed to ensure that the ignition is not switched on by mistake.
Note! After the key has been removed: Wait 1 minute before starting work.
  • Remove:
the side piece for the door mirror
the surround for the inner door opener
the cover in the inner door handle
the screw by the inner door handle
  • the press clips.
Carefully tap the bottom of the panel to release it.
Pull the upper edge of the panel inward.
Disconnect the connector.

Install:
In reverse order.

Removing the door mirror Separate the connector.
  • Remove:
    a nut
  • the door mirror.
Removing the mirror glass
Fold the mirror glass forwards and inwards as illustrated.
Grasp and pull the mirror glass lengthways until it releases.
Work the glass out.
Disconnect the terminal pins from the mirror glass.

Removing electric motor
  • Remove:
    the mirror glass
  • three screws.
Separate the connectors.

Note! Note the positions of the connectors.

InstallationInstall the electric motor
  • Install:
    the connectors
    the three screws
  • the mirror glass.
Installing the mirror glass
Install the terminal pins.
Fold out the mirror mounting on the motor.
Hook the mirror glass into the inner mounting.
Press the mirror glass into place.

Yes there are pics, but they wont show up here i believe, i can fax them. the mirror is simple to remove, manually push the inner part all the way in, and on the outside edge, pull it, it will unsnap.

they are from vida.

i took out the mirror glass, was kinda scary but there is nothing wrong with it behind there, how come it stopped getting heated ?

the other side still heats up fine ?!?!?!? should i just try to find a used mirror and replace it ?

I guess you can see if you have voltage at the terminals.

great idea, ill try that, and if there is voltage present then there is something wrong with the element thats glued to the glass ?

otherwise its something with the whole circuit at which point i should just get used to driving that way ??!!!?? ;-(

SVT, I could use those instructions or pictures. My outside temp sensor has stopped working. Dealer tells me on a 2003 XC70 there is one in each mirror. I suspect i have to pull off the mirror to get at the sensor somewhere in behind. My mirror cases are solid one piece....so to get at guts it must be by first removing the mirror.
