Please help
Good Morning, I am very excited to find this group! In 2009 I purchased a Volvo S80 2007. I bought this car with the understanding of a personal 1 owner vehicle. To my surprise, I recently found out that the registration had changed to commercial lease vehicle after eight days. The car fax stated the vehicle had 61,224 miles, but the dealership assured me this was a typo. They said there is no way a person can change the mileage on the new odometer. I believed them. The vehicle was sold to me with an understanding of 1 owner personal vehicle with 21, 214 miles. Now the engine is leaking oil. I have had the car repaired twice already.I was assured the oil leak was fixed. I am a very trustworthy and kind lady. I always look for good in people and believe them from my heart. However, I feel like I am being cheated, lied to and taken advantage of. Since they mislead me about the ownership of the vehicle then maybe the mileage is 61,224. What can I do?
Ownership changes can occur when the leasing co. buys the cars. Doesn't mean that more than one person ever "owned" the car, just that it passed through several hands before final delivery. By itself it isn't an issue in my opinion.
You say 'dealership', was it a Volvo Dealership, another car brand dealership, or a used car lot? Brand name dealership generally won't screw with mileage - the penalties are too great and they will simply take the mileage out value of the person who trades it in. Used car dealers are more variable. Still, a car that new when you got it was under warranty so there is most likely a history at Volvo, have them pull it and look at it to see which scenario matches the vehicle. It's very possible that Carfax erred also.
Oil leaks are really a separate issue, but 60k miles wouldn't account for it more than 21k, some things leak periodically (turbo hoses are good for 70k or 5 years for instance) so what was leaking, who fixed it, and what did they charge you?

I bought this vehicle at a dealership. 04/21/10 coolant leaking into alt from coolant nipple. replaced battery, alt, bleeder hose, coupling, casing-no charge to me. On 02/09/11 I had the oil changed. There were no engine oil or fluid leaks. On 02/19/11 engine leaking oil on my carport. The dealership stated leak at exhaust cam seal. Replaced o-ring, bleeder hose recall, bleeder h-31319051. This was no charge to me (40,735 mileage). 09/01/11 changed oil-tech stated no oil leaks. 11/14/11 oil leaking, had to add oil. Took car back to dealership. Fixed oil leak. Yesterday, oil leaking from under my car again. What should i do?
