Hei fs,
Mine is HU-601....m also eager to know what is that. But the one below the temp **** is ECC aka ELECTRONIC CLIMATE CONTROL. Is a sensor that does the climate reading. Do not block it. Hope this helps. Pls see pix below. BTW does your HU-801plays CD-R (recordable disc)...just asking ?

Another curious cat here! WTH does that little window thing do? Mine also has them on the bottom of my mirror which i assume are day / night sensors so the review mirror turns on the anti-glare at night time? I don't know? Can someone please shed a little light on this for us?

1) My HU-601 can't play CD-R at all it only plays OEM CD's :-( BTW r u also using HU-801 coz i tot of upgrading the whole radio unit.
2) Thatlittle window is called TEMPERATURE SENSOR
3) As for the mirrors...yes you r rite...they are day & nite sensors that turns on the anti glare at night time (very clever design by volvo)

That one is called PANEL ILLUMINATION SENSOR. It will auto adjust the daylights itself when u r driving through a tunnel. The panel lights will be brighter or dimmer depending on the weather. Hope this helps :-)
