Default Remote cannot be programed by a dealer

Hi,

I bought a 2000 Volvo S80 T6 a couple of months ago, but did not get a remote from the previous owner. I bought a new remote ($73.50) from FCP Euro and asked a dealer to program on it.

However, they failed to program on it and they said the key code may not be matched with the remote. They charged me $105 for labor and program. I asked them try programing with their new remote. Unfortunately, they failed programing again, and said they it may be my car's problem. Then, they charged me another $95 for the new remote. I spent almost $300 without getting any working remote.

They asked me to diagnosis my car on the next week, and the cost may be between $0 to $300. The service manager said if the computer is problem, it may be $800.

Do you guys have any suggestion and/or idea about my car at this point ? I do not want to spent much money, and want to know why they cannot program remote for my car.

Thanks
