Default Replacement Tires

I have a 2002 S80 2.9 and it has 225 50 R 17 tires on it. I would like feedback on what to replace the Kuho tires that are on there now. I am considering Bridgestone Turanza with Serenity or Michelin Pilot MXM4. Both have treadwear ratings of around 440. What would work better or is there any difference?

Also, should I just go with a lower treadwear rating and replace the tires more often? Is there any advantage to doing this? I am trying to decide whether the economics of having fresh rubber more often is better

TireRack.com has a pretty good rating system for tire. It show that the Bridgestone Turanza with Serenity areA LOTbetter than the Michelin Pilot MXM4. I would get theBridgestones. The advantage of long life tire is just that, long life. Itshouldsave you money. When I look for tire, I want some that will preform very well. If you can find a tire that suits your driving style, then stay with it.

Thanks for your feedback. Do you know the best place to search for tires online at a discount?

www.discounttiredirect.com has free shipping normally and www.tirerack.com has the best reviews so between the two you should get a good deal.
There are loads of threads about replacement tyres so if you run a quick search on the forum you should find some..
I personally find Yokohama to be the best match between price and performance..

Yokohama is another good brand. There is a pretty descent amount of tire suppliers out there right now. www.discounttiredirect.comand www.tirerack.comare pretty good sites, so it is up to you, but you will still have to have them mounted, so it might be cheap tobuy and installthem at a place near your house.

'normally' a tyre that wears out quicker will give more grip, and a harder wearing tyre has less grip.

But thats a real general rule of thumb.

I bought Michelin Pilot MXM4 for my S80 and am very happy with them. Best price I could find was $125 EACH though.[sm=boohoo.gif]

I bought the michelin pilot all seasons, and they just released the "plus" addition of those tires. Only difference is the Plus is guarenteed for 45000 miles, and are only 10$ more than my tire. I love my tires, but they are wearing fast but the handling, ride comfort, traction (rain or snow) is really great. My tires dont have a mileage warranty lol.

Not long ago I needed 4 tires for me R.
I looked on e-bay and found 4 tires shipped for less than $300.00
They were Kuhmo ecsta mine were smaller than yours but your might not be that much more.
Mine are 205/40.17's
I like the Kuhmo tires thats all I have been using for years.

Personally, I'd go with the Michelins. I have used them on just about every car I've ever owned and they are great tires.
