Default Resetting the Service Light for my 2000 S80

Good morning All! I apologize for the redundancy of this post, but I have been unable to reset my service light. I have tried all recommended methods, but have failed with each and every attempt. Is there a way to specifically reset the S80, I have found what appears to be working methods for the S40, S60, etc. And specific and detailed method for the S80 would be greatly appreciated.

If the problem is user error (ie. I'm an idiot , please feel free to let me have it! hahah

Thanks in advance.

Whats the mileage? There is a 36,000 mile service that the light will ding you for. It will not go away until someone clears it, and dealerships won't clear it until you have the 300+ dollars service done (Cabin air filter, oil change, fluid refill, new plugs). All of which can be done on your own for less than 100 with premium parts.

The mileage is at 57k, the service would only be getting done to rid me of this "service" light. I take pristine care of the car, the only thing I could even think about possibly being replaced is the plugs, but that would just be for a "warm fuzzy".

If I can avoid the dealership and clear th light myself, that would be ideal. But if the dealership is the only way to clear it, then I will spend the 300 get rid of it.

What about the cabin air filter? That is always a good thing to watch. Also, when replacing plugs, I know that our buddies on the forum go practically everything Bosch or OEM, but I would reccomend Splitfires and the wiring kit (all in all about 100 bucks) for some significant jump off the line.

Anyway, the service light won't be going anywhere without either someone with an OBDII reader and the software for your care, or a dealership.

Check out advanced auto parts. The one by me in Washington Twp doesn't have the software, but another one may have it. My friend, James, is a volvo mechanic and has a laptop and all the software to do that stuff. That is one thing I need not worry about.

BTW, when was the last tune up?

Some cars are Very picky. It is the Same presidure as the S40 and S60.

Sometimes it will take like 20 times till it wil reset.

What usually helps and makes it faster for me. Make sure all doors are closed. If it is still stubborn then lock and unlock the car and try again.

Thanks for all the responses.

Tech, I will be sure to give it another run. I didn't realize it can take that many attempts. I did it no less than 10 times, but another 10 can't hurt any.

JCVolvoS80, It's been about 15000 since the last tune-up. I will probably end up taking it in for the plugs and cabin air filter. I don't need a full tune-up, but I am also do for a tire rotation, so maybe paying a little more to get everything done in one fell swoop is the most time/cost effective route.

Thanks for all the help!

I was just wondering, is there any sort of an audible signal that I'm resetting the Service light?

It sounds funny to say this but I forget if it Beeps when it works or if it Fails.
I know if it Fails there is a Number in the Window.

Here is How I do it.
Turn to key position I
Push in the Trip button and hold. When the milage disappears then turn to position II wait about 3 to 5 Slow seconds and release. Also look for the ! in the little window between the Speedo and Tach. If it flashes after the 3rd flash release.
