s80 diesel noise please help

hi, i have a 2003 s80 D5. there is a strange warbling sound when throttle depressed, more throttle depressed the higher the noise. it is almost like a pressure valve noise. it only does it when under load, ie. selecting higher gear a bit early. stops when revs reach normal for that gear. thought about changing fuel filter as car has done 102k. any help most gratefully received. someone please reply soon as i have a long journey coming up and would like to know that the car will get me there and back. thanks in anticipation. dave.
