S80 P0014 code and rough (surging) idle
Hi,
I am the proud owner of at 2001 S80 T6 with 400,588 miles - that is not a typo, it really has 400,000 plus miles. Here is my issue:
I had to have a NC emissions inspection done in September. at the time I had CEL with code 1655 and sometimes 1332 would also show up. I replaced the Cvvt valve with a used valve and for a couple of days, I had no codes and was able to get the car to pass inspection. Thought I was home free. then I started getting a P0014 code as well as a rough idle deal that comes and goes. A work colleague (from Sweden) works on these cars on the side and has the latest Volvo diagnostic tool. I took the car to him and he ran a scan. He told me that it seems the timing is advanced the exhaust cam, and I should be able to see that by removing the timing cover and aligning the marks. He said one should be off one tooth.
I did notice when he ran a test, where there was a screen which had a place for 4 different readings in degrees, all 4 read 20 degrees.
He also gave me the real ECM code it was throwing (a different number than the P00014). I did some research online and think I saw that a reading of 20 indicates a bad CVVT valve, although I have not been able to get back to that same place (site) to verify.
Other than the occasional rough idle and the cruise control working when it feels like it, the car runs good and gets like 25.6 MPG on the highway.
Now before I go, I must tell you the original engine made it to 360,900 miles before it tossed a rod thru the block. I found a replacement engine with less than 100K miles and installed it. So I now have 400K plus on the car and the replacement engine has 39K since I put it in the car.
The rough idle comes and goes - its almost like a surging deal.
Thank you for reading and a big thank you if you are able to help.
