Hello all, I recently bought a 2009 S80 and it is making a popping sound (felt as well) it occurs as the steering is turned while the suspension is in a state of moderate to extreme flex (such as turning into an inclined driveway)
It seems to emanate from the center of the chassis.
This is the first all wheel drive sedan I have driven but have owned several four wheel drive trucks- this popping sound is very similar to what the trucks do while engaged in four wheel drive on a sharp turn (normal for 4X4)

Is this normal with S80 all wheel drive? in comfort, sport, or advanced?

I would check your CV Joints.....

 

Yep, check CV joints for sure. I'm not familiar with all wheel drive on Volvo's. But if they have u joints be sure to check those too.

 

A real quick check is to get under the car and check the rubber boots on the CV joints to make sure there aren't any cracks or tears in them..if there are then the Grease has probably leaked out and now your CV joints have NO lubrication.
