Is this S80 T6 a good buy?
the owner wants $2000 or best offer. it is a 2000 model. she says that one of the turbos has gone bad and needs to be replaced. i've replaced the turbo on my 940 a few times, so i'm fairly comfortable with this job. it has 159k miles on it, and from the photos, it looks to be in pretty good shape. i got a history report, and it looks like it was in a fleet a few years ago and sold at auction in 2007. history shows no wrecks or major work done on the car.
i've been a 240 and 940 owner for several years. i've had a LOT of problems with my 940, from water pumps to radiators and the turbo blowing all the time, up until it overheated a week ago and needs the engine replaced. i've heard mixed reviews about the dependability of the early S80's, and i really don't want another car that breaks down every 6 months. what do yall think i should do? i've heard a lot about the S80 trannies needing replacement after 100k miles, bad electrical problems, etc.. if this car has escaped any major problems for the last 9 years, does that mean it's a solid car, or that everthing is going to go wrong at once?

Hi there..just want to put in my two cents into the post..have a 2003 S80 and yes there were a few issues with it in the beginning but the dealer fixed it..like oxygen sensor, trunk hatch but nothing major..let me knock on wood....for $2000 bucks I'd say it's a good buy..don't drive ours too much..only 52k miles and still paying it off..expensive sucker..gas mileage is about 23mpg so on the turbo you'd be getting 18-20mpg.Must tell you the most comfortable seats..ever..hope that helped..good luck with your decision !!

well, we got out to where the seller was, and pulled up next to the S80, and my god was it beautiful. really pristine. white smoke puffed out of the exhaust just as if it had a bad turbo. but then we took off the oil fill cap and smoke came out of the cam cover. i pulled out the dipstick and smoke puffed out of there too. probably needs a rebuild, at the least?
it's really tragic. it's a gorgeous car. oh well.
