I have read the old posts and they don't adress wich way to take up the slop in the front cam gear. I have an 01 s80---2.9. Head and belt off starting from scratch. set the crank mark at 12(which is not TDC with piston TDC puts the mark at 3just like the gentelman at the bottom of the page) and the cams at 12. but the front cam gear will move aprox 3 teeth. 1 1/5 either way of center. do I take the free play out tight clock wise and set my mark or do I go counter clock and set the mark. Thank You very much. I searched so if I am asking a stupid ques. I am sorry.

 

Well with all the marks lined up properly the belt on the front side should be tight and all the slop will be on the tensioner side.
