Default S80 v8 electrical issues

I have just purchased an s80 v8. It has a few miles on the clock and some minor issues which are easy to resolve. However it has started to throw up a message of immobiliser fault on occasions at which point it will not start. I have scanned it and it comes up with multiple communication errors for the ecm. I have checked the ecm and there is no water damage or or obvious issues. I have a launch code reader but no volvo specific stuff. Can anyone suggest what I should be checking for. Are there known faults to check first. Car is a 2007 s80 v8. I can diagnose things myself but just need some help to start as I have never dealt with volvos previously. Thanks Mike

You need to get a copy of VIDA and a J2534 or Volvo DiCE dongle - so you can see the operation and trouble codes for the CANBus.
You might search for "VIDA DICE" on this forum and on swedespeed.com to find out how other enthusiasts get VIDA.

Default Key issues

My launch code reader communicates with all of the modules and I can see it throws up multiple errors for abs srs and immobiliser communication issues. These will reset if you keep clearing them. I have observed recently that it does not always see the key as mine is keyless. If I insert it in the slot this sometimes works. Other times I just lock and unlock it and that's enough. There is no one way that seems to work every time

I have looked at the kvm module and it has 2 keys registered and sees my key in the vehicle. There is a reading which says something like key detected but not authorised. I am now fairly sure that it is an issue with the key and whether the kvm module sees it. I am waiting for a local locksmith to get back to me to see if he can help read the key and module or possibly make another key. I will report back once I spoken to them. Incidentally my friend has had similar issues with his jag xf so it makes me wonder if it is something to do with the ford architecture.

The LAUNCH code readers vary, the one you have may or may not have the capabilities you need to solve a non-emissions or safety related problem. Good luck.
