screeching brake pads...OEM material?
Hello everyone
I just replaced my brake bads on my 2000 S80 with aftermarket ones from Kragen auto center. They're not the original OEM pads, but they've started screeching pretty bad. I called the volvo dealer and they said that it's because they're metallic or semi metallic and that the OEM pads are organic. Does anyone know what the OEM brake pads are made out of? Thanks for the help!

RE: screeching brake pads...OEM material?
the semi-metallic pads do create the screeching noise on the rotors. Sometimes if you don't drive for a day or more a coating of rust causes the screeching until it rubs off while driving, and sometimes --though not often--it is just the metallic nature of the pad on the metal of the rotors. (probably the ones you got, I don't think many people still deal in metallic?) Ceramic (I've found to be most expensive) are quiet and don't release brake dust like the semi-metallic do, so they keep the wheels looking nice and have good traction. The organic are quiet (and cheapest) but don't provide the stopping power of semi or ceramic, and neither the organic or the ceramichave the lifetime warranty that the semi's have. Just need to decide what yiou're looking for and willing to pay...
