I'm getting a SRS Service Urgent MSG..and I found out that..the Dealer is the only one that has equipment to reset this MSG...I also found out that..while this MSG is shown on the dash the SRS System is DIS-abled, until reset...which means the Airbags would NOT deploy in an accident.

I think this would be good in some ways and bad in others...if your in an accident and wearing your seat belt..you would be protected anyway..however, if your NOT wearing a seat belt..the Air Bag would not deploy to save you in an accident.

The nearest Volvo Dealer is about 300 miles away..is it worth driving 6 hrs just to have this reset..?

 

I would have it reset.
Some Volvo specialist can reset it.

 

I wouldget it reset. Remember SRS stands for SUPPLEMENTARY Restraint System. It isa SUPPLEMENT to the seat belts. You should always be wearing your seatbelts as that is the primary system.Also keep in mind that the seatbelt pretensioners probably will not fire, which will let you move closer to hitting the dashboard, windshield, or steering wheel. And what about a side impact? Your side airbags and air curtain will not deploy, leaving you vulnerable - the seatbelt will not protect you in that type of crash. Take a look at some crash test results to see the difference with and without the airbags, side airbags, and air curtains - the non-equipped cars are consistently worse. Why take a chance?

 

you should be able to hit the read message button on the blinker switch then be able to scroll with the roller on it to get your mpg etc. I had the same message but was able to view other options after reading it... after ever start you have to read it then use the scroll option. Tech is right doesnt have to be the dealer i got it reset for free at a local shop just call all european shops and ask if they can reset airbag codes or not. look for volvo specialist.

Go to alpha-bid.com..look for the Volvo Reset tools.it costs 185.00, it will also clear all dtc's in addition to the Airbag Urgent Svc light.
