Default Steering whine, rubbing tires 02 s80

Hi, just joined forum and have problems and a question. (2002 S80 T6)
Problems: 1. Whining from under hood when turning steering wheel, even just a little bit and at full stop. 2. Replaced tires with Kumho factory specs and they rub the wheelwell both sides. Mechanic says this is common, can't I live with it! Really?
Question: Where can I get a list of dash messages and their purpose? Latest one is "no skid system needs servicing". Certainly these are compiled somewhere! Thanks

whining is usually low power steering fluid and yes, the tires always rub, I had Kumhos and now have yokohamas and they always rubbed when turning the wheel all the way!

I have 2003 T6 with 17" wheels and my tires rub as well (when turned to the max). I guess we have to live with it.

Uhh... the rub is not normal.. You have a worn out steering bump stopper. its on the knuckle; little cyclinder looking things ... you can see it if you put your head down and look at the lower inner section of the suspension and Youll probably see a worn out bushing. Id say its about 1x2 inch cylinder shape. Mounted by 13mm bolts on each end. thats what I was shown when the mechanic lifted my car up.

agree steering stops. When you have a car with such a large turning radius it's
always tempting to nudge the wheel a little harder. I'm on the third set.
The whining from my s 80 is my wife!

Default Kumho's too

I had the exact same problem. 2003 S80 T6. went from OEM michelins to Kumho. Got the rubbing on both sides. mechanic said it was common with the kumhos even though they are the same size as the michelins. 40,000 miles later, just put on a set of yokohamas - no rubbing noise.
