Default S90 power steering whine

I've replaced the p/s pump on my 98 S90 three times and it still has a whine. New belt and pully... It's an internal system noise....any suggestions?

Replaced for whinning? Maybe a should put my daughter up for adoption and get a new wife??? If the whinning doesn't wake up the neighbors let it go until it fails. Three pumps? I really don't know but I usually don't replace working parts until they are not working. My power steering has chattered since I got the car 30 months ago and it still chatters and works. This may not be a big help but maybe if you posted an audio of the sound others can tell you how bad it is.

Hey, this is my first post on this board, so I'll start with hello. Hi. My friend has a 1997 Volvo S90, and yesterday the power steering hose breaks. So, in the rain, her parents have to come down there and we got a metal tube and clamped it in place as a temporary fix. And do this things come with a jack anywhere in the car? I mentioned driving it up on the curb to raise it up, so her Dad did. So, we get it all nice and it works. Screams like a supercharger using a bottle cap as the pulley while it purges air though. Finally it stops that, and they take the car leaving us their car, and they drive off on their happy way. About 20 minutes later her cell phone rings. The car broke down again, and I think the power steering pump is pretty much shot. Anyone had this problem, and how hard is the pump to replace with the pressurized lines and everything? They want to take it to a shop, and I'm just not that kind of guy. If anyone can help me, I'd really appreciate it.

Hi Chairs. The post is pretty mixed up so I'm confused. I don't think a bad power steering pump would cause the car to "break down". I have never had to change the pump so I don't know how hard it is to replace. The guy that started the post claims to have replace the pump a few times so it shouldn't be that bad.

How long has your friend had the S90? How many miles does it have?

Yes it does / did come with a jack. It's a crank that is usually stored in the trunk under the center carpet, bolted to the floor just forward the spare tire. Some people keep it under the spare tire and I keep mine in the pocket under the small panel to the right of the trunk.

Have not had a problem with my power steering pump line breaking. I could see how loosing fluid to the pump could cause it to fail seeing how it is 13 years old. Salvage yards should have an ample supply of these pumps, hopefully you can find on easy.

If you know what caused the car to break down let us know. S90's & 960's are somewhat easy to work on so many shops should be able to help.
