Default STH Solenoid (Transmission pressure sensor) Help

I have a 99 s80 t6 with a transmission service required message on. I pulled the codes and got a 748 and a 1618. I think the 1618 is for the abs module, but the 748 is for the line pressure sensor inside the transmission. This kicked the car into limp home mode. After I pulled the codes I was able to jump out of limp home mode for enough time to shift through all the gears without any slipping. The car is currently at the only transmission shop in town and they are quoting me 2800 for a complete overhaul which comes with a 3 year 36k warranty. They told me they pulled the pan and found more material in it than what is normal. My only concern is that the transmission doesn't need all this work.

Does anyone know what exactly the sensor is for? After the car went into limp home mode I found out about the recall for the ETI and took it to volvo for the new software. This at least got me a few free minutes to talk with the technician there. He told me the STH sensor keeps the transmission shifting smoothing whether you accelerating slowly or slamming on the gas pedal. He then of course said Volvo's solution is to replace the transmission. Has anyone else had this particular code? Does it mean the valve body does not have the correct pressure or is it something else entirely?

Would a flush and a new filter fix the problem? Or maybe just a reseal? Any imformation or advice would be greatly appreciated

I had pretty much the same problemshortly afterIbought my '99 T6 in January, It was slipping on the low end and sticking in thrid when a torque load was applied.I ended up having the whole tranny rebuilt after reading that these tranny's are garbage and go out frequently. It has only been a few months and about 4500 miles and my Transmission Requires Service light is back on... waiting on my code reader to some so I can pull the codes...

I dont think $2,800 is worth for a rebuilt transmission. My transmission on my 99 S80 with 114k miles failed last week and im getting a brand new transmission at the dealer for $3,500 which is only a $700 differnence from what you are planning. The 99 S80 transmission are simply garbage and are not worth to get rebuit as I heard from many people because it might go bad again. So you would be a better better of getting a new one.

Default Transmission Change

Hi, My Transmission mechanic replaced the solenoid on my Volvo s80 1999 90K Miles but the problem raised again.. so now he is suggesting either for rebuilt or replacing the transmission....but there is no option for us to have brand new transmission here. Any suggestion?

I paid 1500$ for a rebuilt tranny on a 99 s80 in 2007 and 107000 miles car still running at 185000. If you tke it to a good shop they do serious of updates to prevent from failing again. But then again you have to take that shot. Nobody is gonna open a tranny and just fixed that thing, theyre gonna want to rebuild it so they can guarantee their job.

Thanks gabyman97596, you encouraged me to get it rebuilt otherwise i was thinking to sell my Volvo after fix.

Since my Volvo is under maintenance I tried other ford or cars latest models but still I wonder I miss my Volvo drive.
