My 2002 S80 (non turbo) with 138,000 miles on it does something that is baffling. When I turn on the car an electronic beep sound goes off. This happens occasionally not every time I start it. I look for messages, lights, warnings nothing appears and the car runs fine I don't see or feel anything out of the ordinary. Does anyone have any idea what this sound is for?

 

Do you have a scanner? If so, plug it in to see if any codes pop up.

It is a factory radio, everything on the car is stock. I will take it to the local parts store they can scan it. I haven't heard it in the past 24 hours. It sounds like it comes from directly in front of me (instrument panel, steering wheel).

 

Did you buy your car used? I used to have a friend that bought a truck from one of those buy here pay here outfits. He would get a beep when he would go to start it letting him know he was up to date on payment and a no start when he got behind LOL

 

I bought it used but paid cash I have no payments to make.

 

I understand but sometimes they just leave the system in the car and you have to put up with the beep...LOL After my friend paid of his truck they just left the system and he had the beep till he totalled it.

 

Too late for me now, but I wonder if they make a version for teenagers that could be linked to grades? or for wives that is linked to credit card activity?

If it is a small fant sound that may sound like a beep. It is probably your automatic climate control system making adjustments in the vent flaps that's all. My S80 does the same thing. If they are hearing loud distinctive beeps...then you have something else going on. Maybe an aftermarket alarm system going bad.

 

It hasn’t done it lately. Everything is working fine I’ll wait and see.
