just acquired a 2001 s80. when i went to try the sunroof i have multiple proplems. first the shade is stuck shut. so i tried the switch to see if it would slid open with that. no luck because the sunroof glass is malfunctioning. it moves a little but then jams. also one side sits lower than the other. its obvious that there is multiple track issues and possibly a cassette issue here. my dilemma is that im not familar with volvo's and im not sure if it would be kosher to try to force the shade back to get a better look (or would it hurt more than help?). or do i need to remove the headliner to see what the f is going on up there? im happy i still have a good motor and switch but if its leaking cuz of the alignment it may not last. worse case i can align it and just disable it but i cant get in it to see. any help would be greatly appriciated.

 

I have just developed a similar problem with a 2002 S80- the shade seems like has lost a plastic part that is probably a guide that runs in a track. I was able to pull it back a bit and see that the metal springs that I suspect were attached to the plastic part were out of the track on one side. I could only feel around and put the springs in the track, but now it doesnt want to move at all- si ti is hung about halfway open.

the actual glass sun (moon?) roof seems to be working fine, it just hangs if you try to slide it back because the shade doesnt want to move.
