suspension clunk on acceleration
Recently I started noticing a single "clunk" when I come to a stop and then accelerate. I'm still somewhat new to working on cars but my first thought was brakes, either caliper loose or pads sticking to the rotor. Checked both, not the problem. Any other thoughts? There is no noise when driving or going over bumps, just when stopped and upon acceleration... Thanks for any suggestions!
I have a 2000 Volvo S80 with 103,000 miles and just recently started hearing a single "clunk" sound when I accelerate. Seems to be the same problem you were having with your vehicle. What was the outcome with your problem?
Thanks in advance.

Upper torque mount bad?
Upper torque mount bad?
Yep sounds like a motor mount. I'm not sure of the locations on the S80 as I've had my car for all of 2 days now, heh, but yes it sounds like either an engine mount or transmission mount (if applicable)
You have an upper mount that attached to the strut mount looking thing. Also there is one that goes from the transmission to the subframe under the motor.
I replaced the upper motor mount about 2 months ago and it looks good. I just inspected the lower motor mount near the transmission you talk about and it also looks good. One thing I did notice is that the "strut mount looking thing" that the upper motor mount attaches to has some play. There seems to be some type of a rubber bushing on each side of the strut mount. These may be bad. When I push on the strut mount manually, I'm able to get a "clunk" sound. Need to further trouble shoot before I can say that this is the actual problem. I will post the outcome.
