My car is 2001 volvo S80, 2.9 Liter.

I few weeks before, I found the switch has some problem. When it is closed, it is hard to start open, and make lots of noise at the same time, but after open about 2 inches, it goes down smoothly. When it is open, it is easy to start close, but at about 2 inches left to fully closed, it moves slowly and makes lots of noise again.

Now, it does not work at all, if you pull or push the switch, it shake once then stopped. looks something block it. I took it to the Autoshop, the guy told me I have to change the whole mechanical part for the left window. It cost about $700. I wonder is it necessary to change the whole part?
