Timeing belt Service
Hello,
I recently went to the volvo dealership in the chicago area for an estimate for the timeing belt replacement and they told me that it was going to be $801 dollars for the timeing belt tensionors and idler pully replacement. Has anyone got it done cheaper then that at somewhere other then a volvo dealer.
Also this question is for the tech, I ask the dealership mechanic if they can inspect the timing belt and they said that in order to do that they would have to take out the engine. I have read many times in this forum that people have gotton there timeing belt inspected.

They are full of S***. All that has to be done is the upper timing cover removed 2 screws.
Then the belt can be inspected.
That job from an Indipendant shop should be between $350.00 and $450.00 depending on labor rate and parts prices.

Hey Tech, not to hijack the post but, is this a very difficult job to do myself? I have done this job in countless VW, Jap and american engines with really no problem but when I look into my car ('01 S80 T6) it appears to be a little challenging. I am running into 75K miles and would like to do it soon.
regards,
Jim

If you take your time you should be fine.
Also if you can search E-bay and buy a program called VADIS.
That is what Volvo used to use instead of Manuals for repair.
