I have 99 s80, just had the serpentine belt and tensioner replaced. Two weeks later the timing belt breaks. Everywhere I go they say it's a $3000.00 job. I really like the car and I need some feedback bad....

 

Unless you do it your self it is like a 3K job.
You will have to replace valves in the head.

 

one question I have is this, why didnt the timing belt get replaced at this time?

 

Timing belt is a more involved service. If you are having it replaced they will usually change the serpentine belt at the same time as they have to remove it to get to the timing belt. However, it is not the other way around. You would have had to schedule the TB replacement.

Good question jks2. I wish I knew the answer since Im not a mechanic. Trust methis has been one expensive lesson.Now Ihave all the information; hind sight is 20/20. I am waiting to hear the damage....I will keep you posted. Thanks
