I started to install a hitch on my S80 and got the bumper trimmed, carriage bolts installed, bolts off the frame ready and was basically down to just bolting it up. However it doesnt seem to clear the fuel tank/casing, it seems to be about 1/4" to short 2 clear the tank however it seems as thought if it could get past the tank it would bolt up. Does anyone know if the fuel tank is encased in a heat shield/protective shield of it its just the tank underneath? Basically I need to sand/ trim the tank or shiled but dont want to do that unless I know for sure its not the tank itself. Any tips would be great. Thanks

 

If you see plastic it is the Tank.
They also installed a metal tank in I believe late 2003.
