Default Trunk Not Stuck, Electrical Latch is On the Fritz

Hello,

Recently my 2000 s80 trunk stopped opening. I can open it with the key (awkward) and interestingly enough, after I open the trunk I can press the button and hear the mechanism make the opening sound. In addition, I can press the latch closed, press the button and voila, the latch opens. As soon as I close the trunk, problem is back again, pressing the button does absolutely nothing. If I close the trunk ever so gently, the button will work but if I close it with a normal "thunk" the button stops working again.

It's almost like there's a loose wire the falls into place when the trunk is in the vertical position.

I have my car @ the dealer right now having the ABS module replaced and getting 105k maint (which includes timing belt replacement) done. All of this will run me just over $2000 so I'm not in ant hurry to get more work done until I can afford to do so. I still need to replace both sway bars (dealer will do), charcoal filter (I will do) and driver strut (I will do).

If I can fix the trunk myself then I would prefer that route.

Thanks for the help!

Question Bump

Bump. I'm having this same issue with my 02 S80 T6

Trunk won't open via keyless. I have to manually open the trunk with the key and yeah I can hear it make noise with the trunk open when I press the keyless trunk release..
