Default type of power steering fluid

Need to know what type of power steering fluid to add to my 2008 S-80; also, when should the break fluid be changed.

Brake fluid should be completely flushed every 2 years or so...
As a rule of thumb you can look at the colour and tell.. If its clear its good, if its getting dark then definitely flush and bleed all the brake lines..
Use a good quality DOT4 brake fluid... If you want to order online look into buying some ATE Super Blue or Amber brake fluid... If you don't want to spend the $18, go to your nearest store and buy some Castrol GT-LMA

About the power steering fluid, the correct one is Pentosin CHF202.. A synthetic power steering fluid... You will probably find the best pricing online..

http://www.fcpgroton.com/category-ex...169/by_year/52

They have both the power steering and brake fluids. .. The ATE Blue and Amber (Amber is the same as the blue but cheaper.. buy that)...

Taking the car to the dealer on Friday for a brake system flush....I know
you're probably thinking these guys will rip me off, but I can't feel safe going to a fly-by-night shop. And I definitely cannot do it myself...the only thing I do is change my oil/filter every 5k/six mos. I actually enjoy this process...get the filters from IPD on line, and shop around for syn-thetic on sale...this time it's Castrol, last time it was Penzoil Platnum, always at Walmart lately.
The dealer said the cost of the flush would be around 150. They will top off my power steering fluid (down to add), and check under the hood. Car hasn't been to the dealer in 18 months. There is still almost a year on the warrantee, so it's best I bring it in once in a while.
This is my second Volvo. I had a 2001 S-60 which I drove trouble free for 6.5 years. I hope the Chinese owners don't do anything to hurt Volvo's excellent reputation.
Again, thanks for the good advice. Happy motoring.
Chuck

Nicolaselias: I hope you got my last thread. Going to let the dealer,
who is a neighbor and nice guy drop off a car from his business and
take the S-80 in for the break fluid flush. Do you know how to re-set
the maintenance due warning signal. Since I do my own oil changes,
the warning light dosen't get tripped.....once told that the trip button
near the odometer was the key, but couldn't get it to work.
Thanks for the previous advice on steering fluid, etc.

Honestly, $150 for that is an astronomical cost...
I went to an independent volvo shop that did a brake fluid flush and full inspection for $40 (I provided the fluid) and I found their inspection and work to be more thorough than the dealer...
I guess its all up to you and how much you are willing to spend really...

The reset procedure is all about timing... Someone did a writeup on it here, so you might want to search that and see what come sup.. i cant remember the process offhand

I read somewhere that a guy paid 89 dollars at Midas Brake and Muffler, so the dealer quote of 146 (plus tax) didn't seem too bad, since they use Volvo approved parts, and the techs are trained on Volvos...like they say "a fool and his money are soon parted". I'll let you know the outcome.
One good thing: the dealer is about 25 miles away, so by him picking up the car, and dropping off a loaner, I save the drive time, plus the wait.....
more later
