What type of steering fluid should I put in my 1990 Volvo DL 240 that has power steering? Mine is running a little low.

You can use ATF type F. If it comes with dirty PS fluid, you can drain and fill several cycles to replace the old fluid.

Type F.
You should change it if it's dark grey or worse. It should be reddish; many don't bother but good fluid keeps your steering rack alive longer.

Easy way to change PS fluid: Buy 1 quart of fluid (owners manual should give a spec as well). Use a turkey baster with a short section of rubber hose added (or similar suction pump) to pull the fluid out of the reservoir. Refill with fresh. Start the car, turn lock to lock 5X to circulate the new fluid in the reservoir down into the rack. Repeat 3-4X until you are almost out of fluid (leave enough to top off). That should get you to about 80% clean for under $10.
