Default Use any cabin filter - write up (*Pics)

So i bought a charcoal cabin filter on the internet which i thought was the one my car uses, it matched the part number that the dealer told me i need when i called them to verify (Note to self - never trust the dealer)

First off here is how to get to the filter:

Near the console on the passenger side there is a slotted ****, turn in 90 Degrees right or left and the first panel comes out:

Next there are two Torx drive pan head type 'b' screws (thats what they're actually called), all you need it a T25 bit to take them off, there are two on this particular panel:

one to the right:

and one to the left:

Now with the panel loose, carefully pull it from the clips that hold it in place, this revelars the box that contains the filter, again 2 screws in the front, and two in the back

With those screws off the bottom plate of the box that contains the filter will come off easily, my filter has probably never been changed, be sure to the remember the way the filter came out, these filters have a slanted top and must be fitted back with the slant on the right side...

the original was the 1" thick regular filter, but the one i bought was the 1 1/2" thick charcoal filter, hmmmmm..

Not to worry, many cars are designed to save manufacturing costs and come pre-made and pre-wired for most of the options available on higher end versions

this particular box has two slots to slide in the filter

Simply cut the arrow-looking tab with a pair of good cutters thats blocking you from inserting the larger filter into its slot, and it will fit right in

The filter i had was also OEM in a volvo box and had a volvo stamp on it, i bought it from a mechanic who got the wrong one for his customer as well, s so dont worry when buying a filter, any one can fit...here is the link to all the filters available

from my experience.. Its best to go OEM with these filters.. The aftermarket ones always seem TOO big and you really have to battle to get them up in the slot..

Where did you get the filter in the writeup? Looks like the ebay one i got that was an EXTREMELY tight fit..

the one i used was volvo OEM, i bought it online from a mechanic who got the wrong one for his customer, it was sealed and the plastic on the filter was also stamped VOLVO

it fit perfectly snug, not tight, once i cut that tab off, so im not sure about aftermarket filters, but OEM should fit right...btw its worth the money, i get a different smell now, my AC doesnt make noises and it doesnt struggle from being clogged, so i dont have to crank up the fan speed and dont overstress the system...worth every penny
