Default value of 2002 s80 with 140K

local guy selling one for less than $1k. says it runs and has new tires, cold ac and heat but needs some work. has airbag light on but says it wasnt in wreck.

for $800 I might buy it to drive and give my s70 a break. I just dont know if there is any value in these cars.

apparently the rednecks around here are scared of volvo's . personally am a huge fan. wish my car had about 100K less miles on it.

advice? I may try to go look at it today

S80's can have a lot of problems and a lot of em need a dealer to fix. They don't seem to hold their value.

good luck.

Why do you wish your car had less miles?

As for the S80, make sure you check it out good. Take it on a 50 mile test drive. Issues with any old neglected car can rack up fast.

I use to say, any running car is worth $1,500 but I don't say that anymore. A guy drove an 850 for me to see and I promise you, it wasn't worth $350. It would have cost $1,800 in parts just to get it running right and we both know that is a temporary situation with these cars. After that it would have still LOOKED like a $1,200 car. No winning with that situation.

I have an employee that had a 2001 S80. In the last few months of it the car completely fell apart - 150+K miles. When she got rid of it several dash lights on, control arms cooked, wheel bearings, torque strut mount, burned through lights and tires.

Sometimes you have to know when to throw in the towel.

Did you look at it?
Personally, if I found a 2002 S80 for $800, I'd buy it as long as the transmission wasn't bad and it wasn't a turbo. I paid $700 for my 99 S80 with a blown head gasket so if I saw that car listed by me, I'd take my laptop with VIDA/DICE and check it out.
