Which motor - NA or T5? Does the car turn over at all? Do the dash lights come on with the key? Does the battery have a full charge and does it measure 12.6V? If the car was in storage for many years, its probably just as well. The car should not be started without some preparation like draining the fuel tank (old gas can turn into shellac and will totally mess up the fuel delivery system) and purging out the fuel lines and rail. Its possible that the immobilizer is stuck on - try locking/unlocking the doors 5x with the key fob to reset. If that fails, there is a way to bypass the immobilizer (I recall seeing a procedure on Matthewsvolvo a while back).
