New Guy, with a serious question
Hello members!
I have a 1997 Volvo 4 door sedan I bought from the dealership 3 years ago. It had 32k miles on it (previously owned by some one who rarely drove apparently).
Anyways, I have been looking to do some work on her (even though its in mint condition, garage kept, still looks new etc) the brakes are needing replacement and im going to flush the transmission.
Here is my question, The owners manual says i have a 1997 960 but the trunk shows S 90.
Is S90 the trim package of the car ( it has heated leather seats, power everything, ABS, 3 drive modes [ sport, winter, economy] moon roof and possibly a few other features i am missing).
I am curious because every time i Google search brake pads i get "what car do you have an S90 or a 960?" My reply is I have an S90 960... but im not sure if that is correct..
When i do a Google search to see what car i have i get the exact same looking car for both of them...below are 2 pictures of 2 apparently different cars (S90 on the left, 960 on the right). they both look just like my car except my car is a nice shiny blue.
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Where do i find that? Just kidding, it says it is a 960. What is the difference between a 960 and S90?
What is the the S90 and what is the 960 model? I am not sure what the difference is here. My guess is that the S90 is the trim?
Difference not too much, wheels, trim. I believe volvo just changed the name so they could continue to use the single letters (ie.S70,S90,C30,S40 etc.) S90/960 I think have the same engines and transmissions.
Right on,
Well i think the confusion all started when i looked at my trunk and it said S90 and then i looked at the owners manual and it said 960.. I looked for parts online and saw that both 960 and S90 were an option..

The 960 and S90 are the same car. When Ford brought Volvo, they redid the name plates on the cars to make it easier for people (at least in there mines)
The 960 became the S90
The 850 became the S70 (the wagon version became the V70)
So on and so forth. Basically, S stands for Sedan (Saloon), V stands for wagon (estate) and C stands for coupe.
Hope this helps.
