The drivers side rear door will not unlock or open. When I hit the fob, the lock stem tries to come up to disengage the lock, but is jammed. I have read this has happened to others - probably something jammed/off track in the mechanism. I watched a video where a fella corrected the problem by manipulating a long thin screwdriver from the inside probing the locking mechanism, and popped whatever was out, back into place. This requires removing the inside door panel however. I'm not sure how to do that on my 2000 V40. Aside from one screw on the inside latch cover (see pic), there is nothing apparent. On the rear door that does open, I see two buttons that I suspect need to be removed in order to get the panel off. Unfortunately, they are completely inaccessible with the door closed. Any reccomendations on how I can get this panel off? Is it even possible on a 2000 V40 with a closed door?
Additionally, what is that weird black button on the jam? I hear it doing something, but I can't for the life of me determine its function. Only visible screw on closed door panel Only accessible when door is open, but I can't open mine. Necessary for removing panel? What the heck is this button/switch's function?
Success!! I was right about those buttons - there are screws behind them. It wasn't easy, but I was able to get them out despite limited access. Then it was a simple matter popping off the door panel. Some lucky probing and prodding from within popped whatever was out of line in the latch mechanism. It now works as designed.
