Hi guys n gals, I'm new here but hope you could point me in a right direction. My 1992 740 started stalling while driving and BARELY made it to my driveway and now wont start. I checked the scrader valve and the gas pump is working and I replaced the gas pump relay and still it wont start! I'm lost now on what to do because I cant afford a mechanic and the car is nice (135,000 miles) so any suggs. will be greatly appreciated! Anyone ever have this problem? It still wont start and I can hear the fuel pump hum and It has spark (checked the plug wire) so perhaps a distributor cap issue? I would appreciate any input!

If you went to the schraeder valve and have fuel pressure, then the next test is for spark... Pull a plug wire and use a spare plug - ground it and crank. you should see a nice blue/white spark. If you have spark and can hear it "almost" start, then you have to check into the throttle/mixture control mechanisms - start by inspecting hoses/tubing etc. Are the boots in good shape? Have you inspected the intake parts like the MAF? is the intake clean or dirty? oily? When was the last time the car got a tune up? plugs/wires/cap/rotor?
