Hi. I have a volvo v40 2013 D2. A message has appeared on the dash saying brake system service required. Anyone know any known faults? Many thanks

 

you'd need to check the codes to determine the cause of the light. "known faults" are irrelavent as those are measured by # service reports over 1000s of cars sold. Typical faults are common to all cars and models - pad depth, mileage, sensors. Start by checking fluid level. Do a spot check for any signs of leaking fluid, grease behind the wheels (ie from axles which can find its way onto the wheel sensors), signs of grooves in rotors (due to caliper issues). Any feel issues - pulling to one side, premature lock ups, soft pedal?
