Clunking Suspension at low speeds?!

Hello,
I've got a 01 V40 with 41k on the clock, it's been running fantastically for the last 4 years that we've had it. Recently, I've noticed a slight clunking noise that sounds like it's coming from the front wheels. The clunk happens when I accelerate from a stop or when I brake. I only notice it at low speeds. My initial thought was maybe a bad strut. My worry is that it could be a tranny problem, because if I tap the brakes several times, it seems to only happen on the first tap. Took it to the local mechanic (non-volvo specific) and he couldn't figure it out. Anyone have any ideas?

I have the same problem. When I come to a stop or when I accelerate I hear a muted clicking sound in the front of the car. I have about 43K on the car with little problems in the past. I just noticed it a few days ago. Could it be the suspension...Please help?

I'm not sure how to check if the engine mounts are bad. What's the best way to do so?
Also, I just developed a stutter at idle when I'm in drive. If I'm in neutral, no stutter. I just threw a CEL as well, cylinder #3 misfire. The CEL happens when I accelerate hard and the car downshifts, I get stuttering boost. I put in new spark plugs last night and cleared the CEL, but CEL came back after I took it out for a test drive, still stuttering. I'm thinking maybe an injector? Or tune? Could this have anything to do with the clunking?

I ordered 2 new coilpacks and wires (wires come in a set of 2) from IPD for $170 shipped. IPD has excellent customer service, by the way, the salesperson I spoke to was a longtime Volvo mechanic and after hearing my symptoms, corroborated Tech's diagnosis for the engine hesitation and CYL 3 MISFIRE CEL code.
Hesitation is now gone and CEL no longer flashes under hard acceleration. THANKS SO MUCH TECH!
Clunking is still there, though, now to test the engine mounts.
