Default drivers door lock???

as a fairly new owner of a volvo I must say on whole Im very pleased with the car, which is a 2000 reg v40! however the other day thinking I had unlocked the car I tried the drivers door handle setting off the alarm but to my dismay the door opened! all the other doors remained locked and the boot did also, subsequently I have changed the door locking mechanism at an expense of £60 and a lot of fiddling around in the door skin (not blessed with the smallest of hands). to no avail! just wondred if anyone else has come across simillar problems and wether its a simple fix I may have overlooked?

Look at the wiring inbetween the door and the body of the car.

yeah no joy! the wiring seems fine the motor is firing the mechanism and the door pin is moving up and down as i unlock and lock, thats what made me suspect the mechanism itself in the first place find it hard to beliieve I would have a faulty part brand new from a dealer? can you believe they want £89 + vat an hour just to look at the problem!

If the rod is moving up and down and the door is always unlocked then the lock assy. is bad.I have seen new ones faulty before.Remember electronics new doesn't always mean it is good.
