Default Hi from NZ & variation on fuel tank issue

Hi All, just bought a "99 T4 with 125k kmsand driven it from Auckland to Dunedin, 1300km + a ferry crossing(very bumpy). Had loads of fun, particularly getting turbo going for overtaking. NZ roads very like Scottish highlands where I'm originally from, lots of fun driving. Was all good till I ran out of fuel on way to catching ferry with DTE reading 90 kms, fuel light not on and gauge sitting above red. Fortunately, car had run so well, had a couple of hours to get to garage a couple of kms down the road. Strange thing was though that i could only get 50 litres into what is supposed to be a 60 litre tank when it should have been completely empty. This seems different to all the other posts which are saying they are reading low but there's plenty fuel left, so Volvo being ultra safe, not stereotyping at all! Also noticed then and all fillups since, that fuel gauge does not go past 3/4(gauge says 50) but even that doesn't make sense as if it reads 3/4 full when it's full, there should still be 1/4 tank left when it reads empty. Very happy with car but would love to hear if anyone has any ideas about strange fuel gauge.

Default RE: Hi from NZ & variation on fuel tank issue

If anyone's interested, think this issue sorted itself out. Have now had DTE reading 70 with the gauge showing about 15 litres left and when filled up, took 45 litres. Estimate DTE is conservative as other people are reporting as around town the computer says average is 10L/km. I know the car had not been used much in the months before I bought it so maybe that was the reason that the gauges got out of sync but a month or so driving around sorted them out, seems strange but thats what happened.
