Default Humming sound on wheels

Hello. I have an '04 v40 that I hear a humming sound that gets louder and higher pitched as I speed up, and vice versa when I slow down. It seems to come from the driver front wheel. I wondered if it was the tire, was told it could be the wheel bearing. How can I determine myself if it is, and how hard is this to do myself? I am a weekend mechanic that has successfully done brakes, rotors, etc. on the car. Thanks in advance for your help!!!!!!!

Rotate the tires front to back. If the noise moves to the back it is the tire. If not it is the bearing.
