Default V40 rear brakes

I am trying to change the rear pads and disks. The disks came off easy but I can't seem to get the pucks back into the cylinder to make room to put in the new pads. I have tried the C clamp but nothing seems to move. Do these have to be screwed in? I didn't have this problem when changed the front pads and disks six months ago?

Thanks

They are ABS brakes and yes they do have to screw back in but you should know this as you unscrewed them to take them out

Sorry but I didn't unscrew to begin with them they were pushed out to begin with from the wear on the pads. And since the fronts are also ABS why did they go back with little effort and didn't require to be screwed in?

Thanks

The pistons in the front callipers do just push in but the rears have to be turned in. Volvo, of course, have a special tool.

If you look closely at the rear pistons you will see two cut-outs. These are for the special tool to fit in. It is possible to improvise to overcome the problem.

Bill.

Thank you for the information. I went to the library and found a current Chilton manual that shows the special tool and while I am sure it makes turning them easy I will improvise and come up with a solution on my own.

Thanks
