I have 98,617 miles on my 2001 V40 wagon. I was driving down the street and it sounded like someone was outside using a leaf blower. Then I realized that I only heard the sound when I accelerated, and I noticed my check engine light went on. This all came about suddenly. There are no otherindications of a problem except the odd whirringnoise. Can anyone help me to determine what it might be?

 

Kind of a loud whooshing sound? If so it is probably your IAC (Idle Air Control) valve.

 

Maybe something on the exhaust broke?

 

All fixed! The problem was a bad air intake valve. $309 incl tax.
