Unhappy What Spark Plugs Should I Use?

My 2001 V40 has 75K on the clock and I want to change my plugs. I have tried 2 different sets (Bosch Platinum and NGK Platinum) with poor results. After gapping and intalling I would take the car out for a test drive. The car seems fine at lower speeds but once I get it out on the freeway and put the pedal to the floor, it starts chugging and sort of jerking. After a couple attempts at this the check engine light begins to flash. I would get my car home and reinstall my stock plugs and do the same test. No problem at all. The car would smoothly accelerate from 55 mph - 80 mph. Does the V40 1.9T need an OEM spark plug or is there a brand and type I should be using? I'm getting tired of playing the guessing game and would like to just be done with this project.

Thanks for any help,

Dave

Get OEM plugs.

Also are the coils cracked?

What did you gap them to?

I just replaced my 01 V40 with NGK today & my car feels a little jittery compared to how it felt when I had the oem Volvo plugs. I gapped them at 0.032 as per the auto parts shop. I am going to order a new set oem plugs & the wire set from FCP. So much for cutting corners.

Try gapping them down to about .025-.027 and see if it runs better till you get the other plugs.

.032 is to much.

The coils don't look cracked. Is there an area of the coil I should be looking at? The plugs were gapped to .028. Who is a good source for OEM plugs?

Thanks Tech,

Dave

FCPgroton or Dealer.
They usually crack where they go into the cylinder.
