considering a 2006 V50
4WD, T5, new pads & rotors, less than 500 miles on the Eagle tires... and only 66,000 miles. I haven't seen it yet (tomorrow!) but the pics all look good, at least. Asking price is $10,500.
It's more than we were thinking about paying but it seems like it might do everything we want. Any thoughts about reliability, things to watch out for, etc?

Hey acezero,
I used to own a 2006 V50, however it was a 2.4 FWD model. The car you have described sounds like a pretty good deal to me. The price is pretty good for its mileage considering that most 2006 V50s range from $10k - 17k in Australia, which basically converts to $9.3k - $15.9k USD (using Google). The V50 is a rather reliable car, however at 88000km (roughly 54680mi) the front control arms on my V50 had to be replaced. As for the mileage on the V50 you are considering, the timing belt may have to be replaced as well as the other general things such as the oil filter. If the V50 you're considering has a sunroof, then you should make sure that it operates properly and no water leaks through the window seals around the vehicle. If you're familiar with the Geartronic feature, you should also check that it operates properly (shifts up and down). If not, it could be the 'magnet' inside of the gearbox compartment. This sometimes comes out of place if the shift housing is broken. (see link Manual mode not working - Volvo Forums - Volvo Enthusiasts Forum)
Otherwise, the V50 is pretty reliable compared to some of the other cars of this day and age. As long as its been well maintained and has a full service history, I'd say its a pretty good buy.

Thanks! What you're saying squares with info I found from other sources, and after our mech went over it & found it needed front struts & control arms (which the seller disclosed) but was otherwise pretty much flawless, we agreed to buy it for $9,5. We haven't actually done the deal yet since the seller is waiting for the title to arrive (he JUST paid it off this month, poor guy) but by this time next week it should be ours. Very exciting!
