I found a very clean 2006 Volvo V50 2.4i with 100k miles that I really like. I never owned a volvo, and never really learned much about them. From the research I did so far, I found that they are obviously very safe and pretty reliable. Is there anything I should be concerned about or look out for when buying a 100k 2006 v50?

I have narrowed my search down to a a 04+ Acura TSX, 06+ Acura TL, Saab 9-3 or maybe v50/s60/s80.

Any advice/help would be great.

 

100k miles is not high for these cars (my 95 850 turned 200 recently). Key things to check 1) timing belt is due at 100K or 10 years so that should be due or recently changed 2) the coil packs generally start to go at 100K so be ready to replace those if you start getting misfire CELs. 3) VVTs are oil driven so make sure you know the maintenance history or check for any leaks or signs of gunk (ie look in the oil filler cap - anything other than staining?). Do all the features work? ACs often can have worn clutches where they need to be reshimmed.

Take it to a mechanic with Volvo experience and pay them to check it out.

Volvo can last a long time, but only with proper maintenance and care.

 

With 100K it may need a little work, usually suspension, and will be due for a timing belt soon. If it was maintained well it will server you for many good years. I'm up to 191K miles. The engine and tranny are solid. I did have to replace the lower control arms and the alternator recently. It runs and handles great.

 

I just purchased a 2008 V50 with almost 200,000 miles on it. Everything looked pretty good on it, and took it to my mechanic who only found one tie-rod that needed attention. Everything else looked great.

I've not been driving it all that long, but it is smooth, comfortable, and seems very solid.

I wouldn't consider 100,000 to be high on the V50. But I would get a carfax and see where the car spent its days.

I am passing on a V50 because the carfax showed the Phila area and I suspect it was used for work. Work on the highway is ok but if that car spent hours sitting in I95 go-no-place traffic the real wear is unknown.
