I recently had a Check Engine Light. On investigation intercooler pipe that runs down vertically at front of engine split. I replaced this but problem persisted.
On further investigation one of the DPF pipes (that runs to sensor) split. Bought replacement pipes from Volvo (shocking price and redesigned all-rubber affair) and set about replacing. I marked each end of fitted pipes to ensure same fit. One pipe slightly larger diameter than the other (approx 2mm).
On the DPF sensor the 2 attachments are sized differently. The larger pipe, was logically connected to larger (diameter) connector and small to small. All good. However, on the engine connectors (again sized) the end of the small pipe was connected to the large nipple (bottom metal pipe) and the larger to the smaller nipple (upper steel pipe). This seems very odd. I can get the new smaller pipe on the the larger engine nipple but is v tight.
This seems counterintuitive and illogical from a engineering perspective.
I’d be really grateful for any experience with is. Could the pipes have been fitted incorrectly at build? Or is this odd arrangement correct?
I would be incredibly grateful if some kind fellow could glance under their V50 Bonnet and trace the pipes. I have spoken to a local Volvo Connectors bottom front of engine DPF sensor attached to battery compartment
specialist who honestly stated that he did not know about the different nipple sizes at bottom of engine as always simply marks and replaces.
